Grutas de Tolantongo
Hot springs, scenic mountain views, waterfalls, and caves are your definition of adventure? Well then, Grutas de Tolantongo is your place!
Approximately a 4-hour drive from Mexico City and not very accessible by public transportation, but worth the inconvenience.
Although the spot is increasingly trendy owing to its spectacular, fairly isolated location, few international travelers come across it (YET). However, locals love it, and the place fills up on holidays and weekends. Don’t miss this one.

Bacalar Lagoon
The Mexican Maldives? Hello to the Bacalar Lagoon! While this freshwater lagoon has been gaining popularity in recent years, the tourist population remains low compared to hotspots like Tulum Beach—where the question ‘Is Tulum safe for tourists?’ is always on travelers’ minds.
The lagoon’s water will blow your mind!
There are many nice restaurants and beach club shoreline spots around the lagoon for you to look out for. The best I have had was Blu Beach Club.
When you visit this gem, be sure to take the boat tour, visit a Cenote or two, and paddleboard or kayak.

Lago de Camécuaro
Lago de Camécuaro is a fairy-tale landscape and something I’ve never witnessed before. What makes it so special is the trees that border and engulf the lake, with gigantic roots braying at the bottom of every cypress tree.
In addition to all of that, the water is probably some of the cleanest I have ever had the pleasure of seeing.
While visiting there for the weekend, a few local people were tourists, enjoying themselves with their families, having picnics, or taking boat tours. A couple of restaurants and stores are at the entrance of this National Park.
Prismos Basálticos de Santa Maria Regla
One of Mexico’s 13 Wonders of Nature – The Basaltic Prisms of Santa Maria Regla. These are consequences of the slow lava flows that filled up the canyon walls of Santa Maria Regla some 2.5 million years ago. And on top of all the already seriously one-of-a-kind rock formations, several waterfalls cascade down the basaltic prisms—what a picture!!

Cañon del Sumidero
The easiest way to view Sumidero Canyon is by boat. Trips begin at the local Corzo de Chiapas, a charming pueblo mágico near Tuxtla Gutierrez.
Many operators have tours departing from many points along and up the river.
The boat trip allows you to travel through the large canyons and see everything you need to see. If you are lucky, you also get glimpses of some animals on the boat trip, including monkeys, crocodiles, and plenty of other birds.

Isla Holbox
Now, this spot is no longer a best-kept secret and is gaining popularity daily. But it’s still a small gem for many compared to hotspots like Tulum!
Located off the Yucatán Peninsula’s northern coast, Isla Holbox is part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve and remains car-free, which adds to its laid-back charm. Expect sandy streets, colorful murals, and sunsets that paint the sky in fiery hues.
Don’t miss a bike ride through the town, a cocktail at Punta Cocos, or spotting flamingos and other birdlife in the protected reserves.

Tulum Beach: Party Meets Paradise
Tulum Beach is just the right mix of relaxed atmosphere and wild nightlife, and is thus a hot favorite among young travelers. On Mexico’s Caribbean coast, Tulum boasts smooth white beaches, cerulean waters, and a trendy beach club lifestyle. By day, you soak up chilled coconut water and sun. The beach is rigged out by night as a rave party with music, fire dancing, and moon celebrations. It’s ideal for cheap party animals who enjoy that luxury vibe without the price tag.
