We’ve created the ultimate tropical vacation packing list to make sure that you arrive at your destination with everything you need.
Choosing The Right Travel Bag
The first step to the perfect packing list is choosing the right suitcase. Are you comfortable checking baggage, or do you prefer to only carry on? Do you want room for souvenirs or do you take only photos and leave only footprints?
The Checked Bag
If you’re taking a checked bag you are looking for space and flexibility. We recommend a hard-shell suitcase with the option to expand. When packing this bag be sure to leave 15-20% of the space for all of the goodies you will pick up along the way!
We recommend packing cubes for any bag to keep everything tidy and organized. One of your cubes can double as a bag for dirty laundry to keep unworn garments clean!
The Carry-On Bag
For the lighter traveler, a carry-on bag may be all you need. A carry-on prevents any potential lost luggage woes and gives you the needed flexibility to keep your vacation moving on schedule. For a carry-on we recommend a bag with durable wheels and easily accessible straps for carrying up stairs and lifting into overhead compartments.

The Beach Look
This will be your everyday look. Your beach look should be cute, comfortable, and functional for a long day in the sun. Whether you are at a beach in Mexico, or just hitting up a beach down the shore, you’ll look great and feel comfortable.
Bathing Suits
You should always pack 2-3 bathing suits. For a vacation where being at the beach is the main event you don’t want to be in a tough spot if something happens to one of your suits. We recommend one cute suit, one functional suit, and something in between!
Cute Bathing Suit
This is the suit you’ll want to be the first photo on your Instagram carousel. Bra sized swimwear will give you the best possible fit and the cutest possible look.
Functional Bathing Suit
Want to go scuba diving or include some cave exploration in your trip? Be sure to pack a bathing suit that you can move and swim easily in! For this we recommend a one piece bathing suit or a two piece with more coverage.
The Sun and Your Tropical Vacation Packing List: Sunscreen
If you’re going to be in the sun all day then sun protection should be at the top of your mind. Beyond a high-quality sunscreen for your face and body, you should consider protective clothing and even UV protected parasols to carry around with you.
But most importantly: pack a great wide-brimmed hat and several pairs of cute sunglasses. These will protect your skin and eyes while also making you look oh-so chic.
When you’re on the beach less is more. You’re going to be up close and personal with the elements, so be prepared! Comfortable clothing, sun protection, and a few fun accessories can ensure that you have the perfect day at the beach.
Cover-Ups
You’ll always want a cute cover-up to throw on if you want to go peruse the boardwalk shops or grab a bite to eat. We love a sand skimming maxi dress or a flirty sarong. For a more casual and edgy look we love some cut off denim shorts and an oversized shirt to create a Cali-cool skater look.
